Last Updated: February 23, 2026
App Name: What the Code!
Developer Location: Hong Kong
This Privacy Policy describes how What the Code! (“the App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and handles information when you use our mobile application. By using the App, you consent to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
In the course of providing the App, we may collect the following categories of information:
- Account Information: When you create an account (including anonymous accounts automatically generated upon first use), we may collect a unique user identifier, display name, and avatar selection. If you choose to sign in via a third-party provider (e.g., Google or Apple), we may receive your email address and profile information as provided by the respective provider.
- Game Data: We collect data related to your gameplay, including scores, game statistics, challenge records, trophy achievements, leaderboard rankings, and game progress.
- Device and Technical Information: We may automatically collect device model, operating system version, app version, unique device identifiers, and language preference for the purpose of app functionality and diagnostics.
- Usage Data: We collect analytics data such as screen views, feature usage, button interactions, and session information to help us understand how the App is used and to improve user experience.
2. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with the following third-party services, each of which may independently collect and process data in accordance with their own privacy policies:
- Google AdMob: Used to display child-safe, non-personalized advertisements only. In compliance with the Google Play Families Policy, all ad requests are tagged for child-directed treatment (COPPA), capped at a G content rating, and served with non-personalized ads enabled. The Android Advertising ID (AAID) permission has been removed from this app; AdMob does not collect AAID from this app. AdMob may collect IP address (for fraud prevention and regional ad delivery) and device type information. For further details, see Google’s Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- Firebase Analytics: Used for aggregated usage analytics. Firebase may collect device information, app usage data, and user engagement metrics.
- Firebase Authentication: Used to manage user accounts and authentication. May process authentication tokens and linked third-party account information.
We do not control the data collection practices of these third-party services. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.
Our advertising commitment:
All advertisements in this app are non-personalized and child-safe by design. No opt-out action is required. The Android Advertising ID (AAID) is not collected by this app.
On iOS, if you grant App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission, it is used solely for ad delivery measurement and fraud prevention — not for behavioral profiling or interest-based ads. Ads remain non-personalized regardless of your ATT choice.
For further details, please refer to Google’s Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
3. Purpose of Data Use
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To operate, maintain, and provide the core functionality of the App
- To manage user accounts, authentication, and profile features
- To provide online features such as leaderboards, global challenges, and trophy systems
- To display non-personalized, child-safe advertisements via Google AdMob (tagged child-directed, G-rated content only)
- To analyze usage patterns and improve the App’s performance, features, and user experience
- To detect, prevent, and address fraud, cheating, abuse, or other prohibited activities
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on cloud infrastructure provided by Google Firebase. We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data. You acknowledge and agree that any transmission of data is at your own risk.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account remains active or as necessary to provide the services described herein. Game statistics and leaderboard data may be retained in aggregated or anonymized form even after account deletion. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data by submitting a request via the feedback form at https://what-the-code-3337b.web.app/feedback. Please note that certain data may be retained as required by applicable law or for legitimate business purposes.
6. No Sale or Disclosure of Personal Data
We do not sell, rent, lease, or trade your personal data to any third party for commercial purposes. We do not disclose your personal information to third parties except as described in this policy (i.e., through integrated third-party services such as AdMob), as required by law, or to protect our legal rights.
7. Children’s Privacy
The App is designed for general audiences including children aged 6 and above, in compliance with the Google Play Families Policy. We take the following specific measures to protect younger users:
- Certified SDK: The App uses Google AdMob (Google Play Families Self-Certified Ads SDK, version meeting or exceeding the 19.0.0 requirement) to serve advertisements.
- Child-Directed Treatment: All ad requests are tagged for child-directed treatment and subject to COPPA and equivalent applicable laws.
- Non-Personalized Ads Only: Personalized, interest-based, and remarketing ads are strictly prohibited. All ads are non-personalized.
- G-Rated Content: Ad content is capped at a G rating (appropriate for all audiences).
- No Sensitive Identifiers: The Android Advertising ID (AAID), SIM serial, IMEI, and other sensitive device identifiers are not collected from users of this app.
- No Data Collection from Under-6s: We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 6. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected such data, we will take prompt steps to delete it.
If you have questions about these protections or believe a child’s data has been collected inappropriately, please contact us by submitting the form at https://what-the-code-3337b.web.app/feedback
8. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country of residence, including in jurisdictions that may not provide the same level of data protection as your home jurisdiction. By using the App, you expressly consent to the transfer, processing, and storage of your data in such locations.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data, including:
- The right to access and obtain a copy of your personal data
- The right to request correction or deletion of your personal data
- Advertisements in this app are always non-personalized and child-safe. No action is required to opt out of personalized advertising, as it is permanently disabled.
10. Disclaimer of Data Security
Notwithstanding any measures we may take to protect your data, we expressly disclaim any and all liability for unauthorized access to, or breach of, your data, whether resulting from hacking, data breaches, system failures, or any other cause beyond our reasonable control. In no event shall we be liable for any loss, damage, or compromise of your data arising from the use of the App.
11. Changes to This Policy
We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time without prior notice. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting the updated policy within the App. Your continued use of the App after any modifications constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
